SPAY/NEUTER
ORDINANCE
You help is needed to
spread the word about Camden City's precedent-setting spay/neuter ordinance. The
ordinance was written by us and passed by City Council in 1996.
Below is the link (or click
the headline above) to the entire content of the ordinance. Print it out, and if you
live in the City of Camden, hand it to your neighbors who have dogs or cats. Mail it to
friends or relatives in the city, or to people who may have friends or relatives in the
city. Or, report a non-altered dog or cat to the city's Police Department.
Place a small ad in a local
city paper, or South Jersey's Courier-Post, the Philadelphia Inquirer or Al Dia, a
Spanish language paper. Most small ads are not expensive. For example, to get a quote
online log on to Courier
Post Online. A small ad can simply state the fact that all dogs and cats in the
City of Camden over the age of 6 months must be spayed or neutered. Plus, you may want
to point out that many low-cost spay/neuter programs are available.
Or, use the format of the
ordinance to enact a similar one in your hometown (see Spay/Neuter
Ordinance).
NO-CHAINING
ORDINANCE
Help spread the word about
the City of Camden's precedent-setting No-Chaining Ordinance. The ordinance was written
by us and passed by City Council in 2001.
Why NO-Chaining? If we
tried to invent the cruelest punishment for dogs, we probably couldn't come up with
anything worse than "solitary confinement" on a chain.
Dogs are pack animals who
crave companionship. Scratches behind the ear, games of fetch, or walks around the
block mean the world to them. Curling up at your feet while you watch TV is their idea
of heaven.
Many dogs left to fend for
themselves at the end of a chain fall prey to attacks by other animals or cruel people,
and many others are injured or hanged or choke as a result of getting entangled or
caught in their tether.
If you know of a backyard
dog in the City of Camden, print out the ordinance and hand it to the caretakers. Mail
it to friends or relatives in the city, or to people who may have friends or relatives
in the city. Or, report a chained dog to the city's Police Department.
Enlighten everyone by
placing a small ad in a local city paper, or South Jersey's Courier-Post, the
Philadelphia Inquirer or Al Dia, a Spanish language paper. Most small ads are not
expensive. For example, to get a quote online log on to Courier
Post Online.
Your ad can simply state
some of the information above and the fact that continuous chaining of animals in the
City of Camden is illegal.
Or, use the format of the
ordinance to enact a similar one in your hometown (see No-Chaining
Ordinance).
